Redefining Nonsense

I remember back in middle school when one of my classmates brought a "Politically Correct Joke Book" to school. Of course we all laughed at the jokes, and shook our heads at what nonsense political correctness was. Even to a bunch of 12 year-olds it so obviously flew in the face of common sense and reason that it couldn't possibly be taken seriously. Political correctness itself was the joke to us. Little did we know.

News broke yesterday about Arizona high-school freshman Daniel McClain being suspended for three days because he used a picture of a gun as the background on his computer. The picture of a gun apparently violates the school policy against "harassing" or "threatening" images. Once upon a time a teacher would have just asked Daniel to change his screen saver. Today Daniel's teacher turns him in for his evil deeds; a warning to others that might not realize that there is something deeply wrong with anybody that would look at pictures of guns. I just did a google image search on "gun" and was devastated to see over 4.3 billion images returned. Clearly, this issue of gun-image control needs looking into. I mean this stuff is right out there where even kids can see it.

Last week we were shocked by news of the most sinister Naomi McKinney; A 6 year old girl that brought a clear plastic toy pistol to her kindergarten class for show and tell. When questioned about her motives Naomi responded "I chose to bring it to school because I thought I could show my friends it because they might like seeing it,". Not only did she have the nerve to bring it to class, she actually wanted to turn her classmates into gun freaks too. Her three day suspension seems a little light when all the facts come to light. At least her parents had the strength of character to stand firm on the right side of the issue. Dad Hank made it clear that he and Naomi's mother had no idea that she had smuggled the item to school that morning. The obvious question about why it wasn't safely stored under lock and key has yet to be answered. And there has been no news on whether the orange barrel plug law was violated with this particular weapon.

Another example of these recent terror sprees is that of 6 year old Rodney Lynch; a first grader at a Maryland public elementary school. Rodney earned a day of suspension and had his school record updated with suspension for "threatening to shoot a student". In response to Rodney's start toward the dark side, school officials questioned him in private about any other dangerous weapons and video games that might be at his home. The other school children can now rest at ease, knowing that the risk of Rodney ever again pointing his finger at someone and saying "pow" has been firmly dealt with.

We have been rolling our eyes for years at stories of nonsense events that result in ridiculous responses blamed on zero tolerance policies. These stories seem silly, but they are insidious. Hiding behind a zero tolerance policy to bully a 6 year old girl is not something that is done simply as a procedural matter. This is a clear example of a policy designed to foster a specific viewpoint in children. Naomi is being taught that guns are evil. Her friends are being taught that liking guns (even toy ones) makes you a bad person. The social engineers in the public school system are training future generations to shun firearms. The powers that be have declared guns to be an undesirable element of American culture. It's proven very difficult to talk adults out of their right to bear arms. It won't be nearly as difficult to educate the children into eventually giving up theirs. It only seems like nonsense.

  1. The indoctrination of our children in schools in general should be of great concern to any reasonable minded American. This subtle one regarding guns is just the latest salvo (pun intended) that the liberal progressives of our education system are trying to "correct". It is up to conservative constitution loving American parents to be deeply involved in their children's eductaion and correct the corrections!
